Miyamoto is excited to announce that Dr. Martin Larisch and Ronald Damen have joined the team in New Zealand. Martin and Ronald are both Chartered Professional Engineers with Engineering New Zealand and they bring more than 30 years of combined practical experience of specialised geotechnical and ground engineering knowledge to the business. “They will help our team to further grow and advance the range of geotechnical services for clients in New Zealand and internationally”, Miyamoto’s Chairman and founding Director Nick Regos points out.
Martin is based in the company’s Kapiti and Wellington offices and will closely work with Andreas Giannakogiorgos and his team to further grow the geotechnical expertise of the company, especially on the North Island, and to assist Miyamoto businesses around the globe with geotechnical value engineering. Miyamoto’s CEO David Weir sees a unique value proposition for Miyamoto’s clients as “the combination of structural and geotechnical services in-house can reduce the client’s risk as it eliminates external interfaces”.
Dr Martin Larisch
Martin started his professional career as a carpenter more than 25 years ago in Germany followed by a University Degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Soil Mechanics in Brisbane, Australia. In his early career as a geotechnical engineer, he spent some time in Malaysia, carrying out soil investigation works (in the rainforest) and subsequent data analysis for a highway project. “I learned very early in my career that sufficient and robust soil investigation data are the key for smart and efficient designs. Reliable geotechnical data can help clients to create substantial cost and time savings during the construction phase” he summarises a key insight of his 25 years’ experience in the construction industry. Having worked for specialised geotechnical contracting firms for more than two decades in Germany, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand, Martin has developed a strong focus on efficient, practical and safe design solutions. As the Geotechnical Engineering Manager for one of New Zealand’s largest construction companies, he was involved in numerous major infrastructure and building projects across New Zealand and the South Pacific. He strongly believes that “before we start any design process we should be absolutely clear about how to construct it safely”.
Ronald is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer and is part of Miyamoto’s Auckland team. He started his professional career in the Netherlands where he also completed his University degree in Civil Engineering. He provided value engineering solutions for one of the biggest Dutch contractors in the areas of geotechnical engineering, coastal engineering and hydrology. After leaving Europe with his wife Else to travel in Asia for over a year, he joined a specialised geotechnical consultancy in Melbourne, Australia, where he specialised in design and construction verification of piled foundations. In 2016, he joined Brian Perry Civil’s geotechnical team in Auckland as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. Ronald got involved in various major infrastructure projects where he provided value engineering through smart designs and construction verification like dynamic pile testing.
Besides the international expertise and the strong track record in seismic engineering, the company values and culture at Miyamoto were key drivers for Martin and Ronald to join the team. “Saving lives and making a positive impact on economies” is a unique company value which completely resonates with my values and belief system states Martin. Ronald added that “The values of Miyamoto and its focus on people strongly align with my personal work ethic”.
Welcome Martin and Ronald!
